Though both offer child safety locks the Explorer offers power safety locks that can be activated and deactivated from the driver's seat. Unlike Acadia's manual switch that requires individually engaging at each rear door. This safety technology is not offered with the Acadia. To prevent backing injury or collision when in reverse the Explorer has standard Reverse Brake Assist in the ST and Platinum trim levels. Collision prevention brakes are not offered in the Acadia. Drivers that fall asleep are the cause of many accidents and deaths each year therefore, the Explorer has a driver alert monitor that detects when a driver is focused on the road ahead. It sounds a warning and suggests a break which is not available in the Acadia. The Explorer provides 8.9 cubic feet more passenger space than the Acadia and the cargo capacity of the Explorer exceeds the Acadia from front to back. An important fact to consider is the ease of service with regards to the engine. The Explorer engine is mounted longitudinally (north to south) and the Acadia engine is mounted sideways making it more challenging to service. The Explorer offers an exterior PIN entry system in case you lock your keys in your car. The Acadia doesn't offer an exterior PIN entry system and its OnStar can't unlock the vehicle's doors.
